About the Lord Ganesh – Ganapatipule
There is a history behind the current Ganesh Temple. Before 400 years, the chief resident (Khot) of Ganapatipule, Mr. Bhide was threatened by Muslims in regards to transfer of religion. Mr. Bhide, a true believer of Hindusum, worshiped God to save him from the threats. His prayers came true and Lord Ganesh blessed him with His appearance at Ganapatipule. Ganpati image at Ganpatipule is said to have sprung up from the soil. Mr. Bhide found a beautiful deity of Lord Ganesha. Mr. Bhide started worshiping the Lord with full devotion. During the rule of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the main temple area was constructed. This had been followed by a nice temple construction by Peshwas. The temple was renovated with modern amenities during year 2003 by the Ganapatipule Temple Trust. There are eight Swayambhu (self- originated) Ganesh spread across India. Lord Ganesh from Ganapatipule is one of them and located at Western Coast of India. The Ganesh deity faces the West, so as to guard the western gates, unlike deities in other Indian temples who face the East. The temple is at the base of a hill, and pilgrims walk around (pradakshina) the hill as a mark of respect
Every year millions of devotees are visiting the Lord Ganesh Temple, not only from India but also from overseas.
